Schrage-Richter Motor
Schrage-Richter motor is a three-phase parallel-excited rotational motor with a double set of brushes. This motor was invented in 1910 by German electrical engineers Schrage and Richter almost at the same time.
The motor is a machine with a phase-wound rotor that is energized. In addition, the stator winding is powered through the brush-collector unit which includes a collector and set sets of brushes orbiting each other.
You can set different speeds by changing the position of brushes.
As compared to a conventional induction motor, Schrage-Richter motor has a balanced design. Its primary three-phase winding is located on the rotor and is powered from the mains through slip rings. The secondary winding is located on the stator. Each winding of this phase is connected to brushes moving on a collector located on the rotor.
The third winding is connected to the collector. It is located in the same slots as the rotor’s primary winding. In the third winding EMF is induced due to the inductive coupling with the primary winding.
Moving beams make brushes of each phase of the stator move to each other or move apart.
Moving beams with brushes are either moved manually or using by a drive motor. Brushes of both beams are located on the collector with an axial shift. Therefore, they can override.
Schrage-Richter motor finds wide applications in the printing, textile, and other industries.
